Caribe Wave 2019

On Thursday, March 14, 2019, the Canaries Primary School and its feeder schools- Canaries Infant and Canaries Pre-School participated in Caribe Wave 2019.  Caribe Wave is an annual, region-wide tsunami training and awareness exercise involving international agencies and territories in the Caribbean Region.

Our three schools, under the leadership of the District Eight School Safety Coordinator, prepared tsunami evacuation plans and other tsunami awareness activities.  The community had an opportunity to participate and several residents, at the sound of the siren, headed to Flora Villa as part of their evacuation drill.

All the schools evacuated to safety in record time and without casualties.  A senior NEMO official, Mr. Andrew George had lots of good things to say about the evacuation response.  This is the hopefully the beginning of more activities aimed to raise the awareness of Canarians of the nature, history and possibility of tsunami threats and what can do to prepare and respond should one head towards our shores.
